Dr Wende

I am currently working in Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital Jerusalem and in Reuth Rehabilitation Hospital Tel Aviv as a pain specialist with a focus on Musculoskeletal Medicine. How did I become interested in Pain Relief and Musculoskeletal Medicine in particular? Read on.

I studied medicine in Melbourne university, Australia, graduating in 1982, and worked as a general practitioner for several years. In 1985, my husband and I made Aliya, I completed a specialization in family medicine, and worked as a family practitioner for a total of 27 years.

Parallel to working in family medicine, I studied and then began to develop and then teach the field of musculoskeletal medicine which deals with the musculoskeletal system as a whole, founding the Israeli Society of Musculoskeletal Medicine (ISMM) in the year 2000. I ran a Back and Neck clinic in the Clalit Health Fund clinic in Rehovot for almost 10 years starting in 1996, and then a pain clinic (Maccabi health fund) in Ashdod and Jerusalem starting in 2009, both of which centered on the treatment of musculoskeletal pain.

It became more and more clear to me over the years that in order to reap successful results, one cannot be lazy in the treatment, and one must address the part of the body in pain as well, at least, as the neighboring joints on either side. If there any asymmetries or movement disorders, these must be addressed as well.

In 2010 I was recruited to work in the Hadassah Ein Kerem Pain Unit, treating pain of all types and sorts, but with a focus on musculoskeletal pain. I am continuing to work there as a qualified pain specialist in pain relief medicine.

Currently I am leading a very serious research project comparing epidural steroid injections to prolotherapy injections (see the section on prolotherapy and PRP). In addition, I am involved in teaching pain medicine to the residents in training, with a focus on musculoskeletal medicine (MSM).

I am also developing the most efficient and cost effective method of doing platelet rich plasma treatments.

Over the years, I have given, together with 2 other colleagues, 18 courses to doctors and physiotherapists in the field of MSM.

Currently I am back on the committee of the ISMM to further the practice and teaching of MSM.
